The UCEED exam comprises two parts: Part A is A computer- based test consisting of MCQs, NATs & MSQs, while part B assesses design aptitude skills. This blog focuses on part B only providing insights into design syllabus, recommended study materials. Furthermore, we have also provided study material for the design aptitude in PDF.

Understand the Overview of Syllabus

Part B of the UCEED exam evaluates a candidate’s design aptitude with drawing capabilities. Previously part B only consisted of drawing but from 2025 design aptitude is also added to assess the capability of candidates regarding practicality and empathy.

Part B is offline and allows candidates to showcase their artistic potential and visualization skills. The type of questions that usually come in this part are around sketching and visualization.

This year, particularly, there are many changes in the exam pattern as well. While this part used to involve drawing for 60 marks, it is now worth 100 marks for two questions:

UCEED evaluates a candidate’s aptitude for design through various parameters:

• Visualization and Spatial Ability: Assesses understanding of 2D and 3D forms, and spatial relationships.
• Observation and Design Sensitivity: Tests ability to detect subtle differences in visual properties and aesthetic outcomes.
• Analytical and Logical Reasoning: Measures capacity for logical arguments, recognizing patterns, and drawing conclusions.
• Environmental and Social Awareness: Evaluates knowledge of environmental factors, social and cultural connections, and their implications on design.
• Language and Creativity: Assesses command over language and creative thinking.

How to prepare for UCEED Design Aptitude

Preparing for UCEED involves consistent practice before the exam, using mock tests, past papers, and seeking feedback to build confidence. On the exam day, staying calm, managing time effectively, and presenting ideas clearly are crucial for success.

Before the Exam Day

Consistency and practice are required to excel in the Design Aptitude section of UCEED. Use previous year question papers (PYQs), attempt mock tests, and seek expert guidance to analyze your performance ahead of the exam.

Understand the Syllabus

The UCEED Design Aptitude syllabus includes topics such as creativity, problem-solving, analytical thinking, visual communication, and environmental and social awareness. Familiarity with these topics ensures candidates are prepared for the variety of challenges they may face in the exam.

On the Exam Day

Candidates are given one hour to complete Part B. This time should be distributed effectively between the sketching and design responses. Allocate time to brainstorming ideas, creating rough outlines, and finalizing polished solutions.
