Admission Criteria for B.Des and B.Tech: What You Need to Know

Admission to various colleges of engineering and design depends on different factors. Different entrance exams have different admission criteria. In this blog, we’ll see various B.Des and B.Tech entrance exams and their eligibility criteria. These exams are conducted for state and national colleges and universities. Some private institutions also have their own entrance exams.

B.Des Entrance Exams 

Here is a list of exams that are required to get admission to the top design colleges in India-

  • UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design)
  • NIFTEE (National Institute of Fashion Technology Entrance Examination)
  • NID-DAT (NID Design Aptitude Test)
  • AIDAT (All India Design Aptitude Test)
  • FDDI AIST (Footwear Design and Development Institute All India Selection Test)
  • GLS DAT (GLS Design Aptitude Test)
  • iDAT (Indian Institute of Art and Design Entrance Exam)

B.Des Admission Requirements

UCEEDThe purpose of the UCEED entrance exam is to offer admission to B.Des courses at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Roorkee, IIT Indore and IIITDM Jabalpur and some other private design institutes.The applicant must have passed the 10+2 (or equivalent) examination. A candidate can give at most 2 attempts.
NIFTEEThis exam is for admission into various undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).For undergraduate programs, the maximum age limit is 24 years, while there is no age limit for postgraduate programs.
NID-DATIt is a national level exam conducted annually for admission to the B. Des and M. Des programs. It is conducted in 2 stages – Prelims and Mains.Candidates must be below 20 years of age for B.Des and below 30 years of age for M.Des.
AIDATIt is a National Level Entrance Examination that prepares candidates for admission to universities and institutions of national repute.Candidates must have completed a 10+2 or Bachelor’s degree from a recognized board/ institute.
FDDI AISTIt is an entrance exam organized by the Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate programs in fields like footwear design, fashion design, leather design, and related areas.Applicants must not be more than 25 years old. Candidates must have passed 10+2 / Intermediate. Candidates appearing in 12th are also eligible to apply.
GLS DATIt renders admission in four-year bachelor’s as well as five years master’s programs in the field of Fashion Designing, Communication Design, Environment Design and Product and Industrial Design in GLS Institute of Design.Candidates who have passed higher secondary (10+2) with a minimum of 50% marks.
iDATIt is a qualifying entrance test for admission to Bachelor degree courses in Fashion Design, Interior Architecture & Design, and Communication Design, offered by IIAD, New DelhiThe candidates must have passed 10+2 in any stream from a recognised university.

B.Tech Entrance Exams 

Here is a list of exams that are required to get admission to best engineering colleges in India-

  • IIT JEE (Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination)
  • BITSAT (Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test)
  • WBJEE (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination)
  • MHT CET (Maharashtra Common Entrance Test)
  • COMEDK (Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka)
  • VITEEE (Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination)
  • CUET (Common University Entrance Test)

B.Tech Admission Requirements

The below table lists down the admission criteria through various entrance exams in  the best private and government B.Tech colleges in India.

BITSATIt is a computer-based online exam for admission to the engineering courses at BITS campuses in Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad.Candidates must have completed their Class 12 examination from a recognized Central or State board or its equivalent.
WBJEEIt is a state-level examination which is for students seeking admission to B.Tech. and B.Pharm courses at universities and technical institutions in West Bengal.Candidates must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination with a minimum of 45% marks in Maths, Physics, and Chemistry/CS.
MHT CETIt is a state-level entrance exam conducted by the State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra for admission to undergraduate engineering and pharmacy courses.Candidates must have completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology as mandatory subjects with at least 45% marks.
COMEDKIt is an entrance exam for admissions to various professional courses in Karnataka.Candidates should have passed 10+2 with a minimum of 45% marks in PCM.
VITEEEThis examination is conducted by the Vellore Institute of Technology for admission to undergraduate engineering programs across its various campuses.Candidates must have completed their +2 examination with a minimum of 60% in Physics, Chemistry, and Maths.
CUETIt is an entrance exam for admission to all undergraduate programs in all Central and State universities. Candidates must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognized board with at least 50% marks.
